It was one of the oddest and, in a sense, most depressing show I’ve done.
It took a severely dark turn after the tributes, with successive requests for OHIO, DEPORTEES, and ABRAHAM, MARTIN AND JOHN,
and remained that way for the rest of the three hours.
Then, during EVE OF DESTRUCTION, it dawned on me that CRAZY IN ALABAMA was about "George C Wallace and LBJ"
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED was early 70s
and EVE OF DESTRUCTION is 52 years old.
And then I got two phone calls in the last ten minutes of the show, complimenting me
heavily on the songs, one of whom said he’s been listening for the past ten years, and
this was perhaps my best show. We’ll take it![b:e003b15748]Next Tuesday is National French Dip Day.
I could only think of two songs about sandwiches and one about roast beef, so I rejected that, only to decide that all songs will have a country’s name in adjectival form in the title. I already got a request for TURNING JAPANESE, for example. Or MEXICAN RADIO.
You get the idea.[/b:e003b15748] -
